RIVERDALE, GA (CBS46) -

Eight families have been displaced following an apartment complex fire in Clayton County, according to Clayton County Fire Department officials.

It happened at the Highland Arms apartments in the 5500 block of Riverdale Road.

Fire officials said one building containing eight units was destroyed.  Six of those units were destroyed by fire damage and two by water damage.

Fire officials said the cause of the fire is not considered suspicious. The fire started in the kitchen, but officials said structural damage from the fire has slowed investigators from confirming what sparked the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Red Cross volunteers will be helping 15 adults and 16 children throughout the afternoon. They will ensure that victims have food and hotel lodging this evening.
