Burglary suspects arrested with 4-year-old daughter in get-away car

Watchful neighbors may have stopped copper thieves right in their tracks, and they even followed the suspects until police pulled their truck over.

It happened at a vacant house on Bryant Street in Stockbridge. What's worse, police said one of the bad guys brought his 4-year-old daughter along for the ride.

The neighbors saw one of those crooks coming out of the crawl space. One of those suspects lives just down the street.

"When I noticed people creeping around the neighborhood and creeping around the house, I knew something suspicious or something was about to go wrong," said Chris Anderson, who saw the whole thing happen.

Anderson and his fiancé Sierra Torres were visiting family members when they noticed two strangers poking around a vacant home in Stockbridge.

The engaged couple worry the house down the street from their grandparents' home is a prime target for copper and air conditioner thieves.

"That's when I was honking the horn to see what was going on, and that's when I seen one guy come out from under the house and one guy come out from behind the house and that's when they jumped in their truck," recalled Anderson.

"We were on the phone with the cops and we followed them," added Torres.

In just minutes, Henry County police pulled the Tahoe over and arrested 41-year-old Bryan Yearta and 38-year-old Jerry Smith, but they weren't alone. Police said Smith brought along his 4-year-old daughter.

"What does it look like when you have a 4-year-old kid with no car seat, no sign of protection anyways, and you're taking them to an abandoned house?" asked Torres.

Smith and Yearta were both denied bond and are in the Henry County Jail.
