FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Fulton and Atlanta police are trying to piece together events surrounding the shooting of a man found walking on I-20 with a gunshot wound on the upper torso.

Atlanta Police Captain Adam Lee III said the victim was found walking on I-20 westbound near Fairburn Road just after 2 a.m. Tuesday.

A passerby saw the man, picked him up and brought him to a BP gas station on Fulton Industrial Boulevard, Fulton Police Corporal Kay Lester said.

The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Lester said he was in critical condition and not stable or alert.

The man later died from his injuries, according to Lee.

Lee said Atlanta police located a car on I-20 near the I-285 underpass.

Police said the victim was possibly traveling in a vehicle that had been taken in a carjacking Jan. 23 on McDaniel Street.

Police are trying to determine where the man was shot.

No information on motives or suspects has been released. The victim's name has not been released.
