Clayton County police teamed up with the Georgia State Patrol on Friday and busted a major drug operation hauling $4 million worth of marijuana.
A tip from a concerned citizen led investigators to 4,000 pounds of marijuana concealed in a semitrailer at a freight yard near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
"The marijuana was actually hidden," said Officer Chandi Ashmore. "It was hidden within compartments within the tractor trailer and through an investigation with the officers on the scene, they were able to find the marijuana within the tractor trailer."
Police said the marijuana shipment originated in Texas or the West Coast. They said they are still investigating where the pot was headed.
Police arrested three men, all from Texas, and charged them with drug possession and trafficking. They said more arrests are possible.
"It's very important that we get the drugs and drug runners off the street, because we want to keep our community safe," Ashmore said.
They credit the anonymous caller for leading them to the huge stash of drugs.
"The anonymous tip was crucial for this case to crack," Ashmore said.
