LITHONIA, GA (CBS46) -

DeKalb County detectives are working to track down the person who left the wife of one of their own for dead.

DeKalb County police said they responded to a call at 3:30 a.m. Sunday and found the woman unconscious, lying in the driveway of her Lithonia home. She was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Investigators said they think she might have been a robbery victim.

Capt. Cornelius Yarbro of the DeKalb County Police Department said Sunday morning they were collecting evidence from the scene, but would not specify what that evidence was.  He did confirm that the victim was resting at the hospital with her husband, DeKalb County Sgt. Jeffrey Banks, at her side.

Late Sunday afternoon, a man who said he is the former husband of the victim, drove by the house and said his ex seemed to be doing better as the day wore on.

"She's doing well," said Dexter Jackson, who said he'd just come from the hospital where she was. "She's coming around."
