Father killed by suspected drunk driver

Posted: Updated:

On Tuesday at about 2 p.m., William David Hannah was killed when the truck he was riding in was hit by a man police said was driving drunk.

Investigators on scene said the force of the crash spun the truck into a utility pole. Hannah, partially ejected, died on scene. Two other passengers, Joseph Long and another man Georgia State Patrol have not identified, were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

"As the truck was going to make a left turn on Allatoona Woods Trail, the green Ford Focus struck him in the rear, causing the truck to go off the road. The Focus that hit the truck traveled another 100 yards down Kings Place Road and crashed into a fence," said Sgt. James Davenport with Georgia State Patrol.

The driver of the Focus, Timothy Michael Van Hoose, was charged with vehicular homicide and DUI. According to investigators, other charges are pending.

Family members of Hannah said he was on his way home to give his son some new clothes for Bible study. Hannah's fiancee was too distraught to talk on camera but said Hannah was a great father.

"It's awful," said Mickey Guiton, who lives across the street from where the accident took place.

The driver of the truck that was hit, Long, was airlifted to the hospital.

"If he was talking and he was speaking, I know my brother will be OK," said Chris Long.  "The state patrol officer told me he was awake, coherent and alert."

A family member of the alleged drunk driver said this is Van Hoose's third DUI.
