ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The Coca-Cola Foundation has awarded two Atlanta colleges with First Generation Scholarship grants.

Oglethorpe University will receive a $1 million grant, and Morehouse College will receive $600,000 in grants that will benefit around 250 students.

With these grants, the foundation is providing scholarships to students who are the first in their families to study at a college or university.

These grants are part of more than $26 million awarded by the foundation in the first quarter to organizations across the globe, including 12 other Atlanta organizations.

The grants support the Foundation's global priority areas, including: $9.7 million for water stewardship; $3.6 million for fitness and nutrition; $7.4 million for education (including $5 million for first-generation college scholarships); and $4.9 million for community recycling, and other local priorities, such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, youth development, and civic initiatives.
