GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Journalist Mario Guevara immigrated from El Salvador to the United States nearly a decade ago because he feared his life.

He said his coverage of political unrest there made him a target for vigilantes.

"We can't come back to our country. We are in danger there," Guevara said.

As a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists in Atlanta, Guevara has covered immigration policy as it affects others.

Now Guevara is facing his own challenges. His wife was recently arrested in Gwinnett County for driving without a license, and now faces deportation.

The arrest comes just days after a judge denied the family's request for political asylum.

Guevara is fighting for the his wife to stay in the U.S. as he continues the now nearly seven-year fight to navigate through the immigration system for himself.
