ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A driver involved in a deadly crash Tuesday on an Interstate 85 exit ramp was denied bond by a magistrate on Wednesday morning.

Joshua Taylor, 36, was charged with vehicular homicide and DUI less safe.

Capt. Adam Lee III, with the Atlanta Police Department, said Ronnie Bascom Jr., 31, hit a guardrail on the 17th Street exit ramp from I-85 Southbound, near Atlantic Station, just before 2:30 a.m.

When Bascom stepped out of his car to inspect the damage, police said a car driven by Taylor struck him.

Taylor's car then hit a concrete embankment and caught fire. Emergency workers pulled him to safety. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Bascom was pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends described Bascom as well-loved and said he made the most of every day. They pointed to a comment he posted on Twitter just the day before he died.

He tweeted, "Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

Police said Taylor could face more charges. They said he tried to lie his way out of the crash.

"Initially, he told officers that someone else was driving his car," said Lee. Neither car had passengers.

Taylor is being held at the Fulton County Jail. His next opportunity to be granted bond will be at his next court appearance on August 1.
