ATHENS, GA (CBS46) -

Jamie Hood was back in an Athens Clark County courtroom Thursday, this time for a hearing on whether he needs another psychiatric evaluation to determine if he is mentally fit to stand trial.

Prosecutors are opposed to it and so is Hood, and Hood expressed his displeasure by lashing out.

"This ain't right Judge. I have rights, and you all are violating my rights, Judge," Hood said.

Repeated outbursts caused Superior Court Judge Patrick Haggard to stop the hearing for a few hours. When court resumed, he heard arguments on a motion asking that Hood be allowed to represent himself.

Hood is facing the death penalty after prosecutors said he shot and killed Athens-Clarke County Senior Police Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian. Hood is also accused of wounding another officer.

Hood said he is not guilty. He also maintains his attorneys are working with prosecutors and against him. In court Thursday he told Haggard he wants new lawyers.

"If you would give me more attorneys, given the differences I have with mine, I will accept it, but if, however, you don't, I will represent myself mostly, sir," said Hood.

Hood's lawyers said their client's courtroom behavior and contradicting answers are proof he needs another mental examination.
