Marietta police officer struck by car

Posted: Updated:

A Marietta police officer was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when he was hit by a car while assisting with an auto accident.

It happened just after 2 p.m. on the Canton Connector near the Church Street Extension.

A Marietta police spokesman told CBS Atlanta News that Officer James McClure, 26, had pulled over his patrol car in the northbound lanes and got out of the car to help out with an accident when he was hit.

A car that pulled up on the accident stopped but the car behind it did not, pushing the first car into the officer.

The driver of the second car stayed at the scene. Charges against that driver were pending.

While the officer's injuries were serious, the weren't life-threatening, according to police.
