Rockdale County investigators laid out evidence Thursday which led to the arrest of a man whom they say stole campaign signs.

Harold Chambers, 54, was charged with stealing 130 campaign signs from 29 different political candidates in the county. He even painted over some of the signs for his own personal use.

CBS Atlanta News went to Chambers' home Thursday, but no one was there. Deputies said Chambers' actions did not appear to be politically motivated.

Investigators recovered 24 stolen signs that belonged to candidate Earnelle Winfrey, who lost her bid for superior court judge, and another 12 signs from her opponent, Robert Mumford.

Chambers was given a $1,000 bond and was released from jail late Thursday.

CBS Atlanta's Adam Murphy tried to question Chambers on his way out of jail, but he got into his car and sped off.
