ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A man managed to chase off potential burglars by firing at them early Tuesday morning.

Atlanta Police Captain Adam Lee III said investigators are searching for up to three men who descended on the Blair Villa Drive home just after 2 a.m.

The homeowner told police he noticed someone shining a flashlight into a window on one side of the house and then saw a motion activated light come on in the back.

The man went and retrieved a his handgun and fired it at what he said was a third burglar at a window in the front of the house, Lee said.

Seven shots were fired at the wall and window, but police do not believe anyone was shot.

The resident told police the man he shot at had a knife and was using it to try and pry open the window.

The burglars fled the scene. Police have not released any information on possible descriptions.

Lee said a second burglary in the area at approximately the same time could be related.
