Legal expert weighs in on Andrea Sneiderman bond hearing

Posted: Updated:

All eyes were on Andrea Sneiderman during her bond hearing Tuesday, including legal experts, who watched her every move.

Former prosecutor Ken Hodges, with Ashe Rafuse & Hill LLP, paid attention to Sneiderman's demeanor, while listening to testimony.

"When the camera has panned on to her, she is putting forth a warm and emotional and smiling reaction to what's going on," Hodges said.

Hodges, who appeared judges hundreds of times, thinks this was an important step for the defense. They argued in front of the same judge that presided over the Hemy Neuman trial. Neuman is Sneiderman's former boss who was convicted of killing her husband, Rusty.

"During the Hemy Neuman trial, she was not portrayed in a very favorable light. In fact it was advantageous for both teams to go after her, so people don't like her and have very negative reactions to her immediately," Hodges said.

Hodges thinks prosecutors gave compelling arguments why Sneiderman should stay in jail while awaiting trial. And while bond was granted, Hodges said the bond hearing plays a larger role in the overall case for the defense.

"The goal of the bond hearing is to get bond, but also to start humanizing her and start changing the persona of Andrea Sneiderman. She's been convicted in the court of public opinion, and J. Tom Morgan and his team need to make sure she's not convicted in the courtroom," Hodges said.

Sneiderman was arrested Aug. 2 on murder charges in connection to the death of her husband.
