ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A driver who refused to pull over for a Cobb County police traffic stop is lucky to be alive, after a violent crash in Atlanta.

Cobb County police told CBS Atlanta that an officer attempted a traffic stop on I-20 East near Fulton Industrial Boulevard.

The driver did not stop, and instead led the officer on a brief chase that ended in a fiery crash on the exit ramp from I-20 to Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in northwest Atlanta.

The suspect was able to get out of the car and was not injured. He was taken custody by police on scene.

Charges are pending against the driver, whose name was not released.
