GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A domestic disturbance call in Gwinnett County Wednesday night turned into a deadly officer-involved shooting.

Gwinnett County police officers responded to a home on Southgate Drive at approximately 11 p.m. after the parents of Victor Vinh Charles Le, 20, called 911 following an argument with their son. The call to 911 reported that Le was armed and threatening to commit a robbery.

Corporal Jake Smith, a police spokesman, said when the first officer arrived, Le was outside. The officer ordered him to drop the gun, and he did not. Police later said Le had a black bb gun.

"He kept taking small steps toward the officer. After a minute or two had passed, the subject pointed the gun at the officer, at which point, the officer fired one time," said Smith.

Le was shot in the chest and died.

The family was too upset to do an interview with CBS Atlanta News Thursday morning but called the tragedy, "a horrible accident".

"He's (Le's) just always seemed quiet. And I've seen him over there helping out with his family, seen him cooking," said David Grosch who lives across the street.

None of the officers were injured in the incident.

Smith said the officer who discharged his weapon will be on administrative leave for at least three days, which is standard procedure.

Investigators have not found anything to indicate that drugs or alcohol were involved.
