Olympic gold medalist Shaun White has been arrested in Nashville after he was accused of vandalizing his hotel room over the weekend and ended up in a local hospital.
White, 26, is charged with vandalism under $500 and public intoxication, after the incident which began when he allegedly pulled a fire alarm at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel where he was staying as a guest, causing the building's evacuation at 2 a.m. Sunday.
A hotel employee also allegedly saw White break a phone at the hotel.
Metro police said White reportedly tried to leave the hotel in a cab, but a citizen prevented the cab from leaving and told the driver he was calling police.
Police said when White overheard the conversation between the driver and the man, he allegedly kicked the man and ran away. The man reported to police he then chased White until White turned and fell backwards, striking his head against a fence.
White was treated for his injuries at Baptist Hospital and released Monday, according to a hospital representative.
According to a Nashville police affidavit, White was given the opportunity to sign a misdemeanor citation and refused.
The man White allegedly kicked declined to file assault charges, police said.
A hearing is set for Oct. 10.
On Tuesday, White posted the following statement on his Facebook page:
"I want to apologize for the unwise choices I made over the weekend and for any inconvenience it caused my family, friends, business partners, the hotel and their guests. I was celebrating a happy occasion with a ton of family and friends and got carried away. I'm truly sorry for my poor behavior."
