LAWRENCEVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

A teenager is in serious condition after being hit by a car in Gwinnett County Friday morning.

It happened on Champions Parkway in Lilburn around 6:21 a.m.

Police said Dominique O'Connor, a 9th grade student at Berkmar High School, was sitting on the corner waiting for her bus when a driver lost control of their car.

O'Connor was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

She has a broken pelvis and cuts on her face. She has already undergone two surgeries.

Josiah Aterley is best friends with O'Connor and had just taken her call seconds before the she was hit.

"She called me just before she got hit and wanted me to come outside, but I wasn't ready yet," said Aterley.

The next thing he knew, fire trucks and police officers were everywhere.

"So I started calling, 'Dominique' like right after and she wasn't answering," said Aterley.

The driver has been arrested. The name of the driver has not been released.
