Griffin Salvation Army goes from bare shelves to fully stocked

GRIFFIN, GA (CBS46) -

Last week, volunteers with the Salvation Army food bank in Griffin said their shelves were completely bare, worse than anything they'd ever before seen. Within 48 hours of word getting out in the local Griffin newspaper, $50,000 worth of food donations were pouring in.

"We've never had it completely empty in the 12 years I've been here," said Lt. Becca Butler.

"It's just like one day, we had food. Then it started getting a little lower, and little lower, and you realized there was nothing there."

She said the donations have taken them back to normal in their food supply, just before what is usually a high-demand time for food pantries during the holiday season.
