On Monday, Kennesaw resident Carlisle Devonish was arrested after investigators say he ripped off his own mother.

Cobb County sheriff's deputies said Devonish started stealing his mother's money in 2007 after she was incapacitated by a stroke.

Deputies said he then obtained power of attorney for his mother and began transferring money into his account, cashing checks that were made out to his mom.

Detectives said that by the time of his arrest, Devonish had stolen a little more than $240,000 from his mother's IRA, savings account and through stock sales.

Devonish was charged with felony theft by taking.

He is being held without bond at the Cobb County Jail.
