Smash-and-grab thieves get away with dozens of guns

Posted: Updated:

Federal investigators are looking for the people who stole dozens of guns in a smash-and-grab. There is a $5,000 reward leading to an arrest and conviction.

Officers say a group targeted the Buck-N-Bass shop off of Buford Highway in Buford. They drove a pick-up truck through the front of the store.

According to the police report, 32 guns were stolen and among them were assault rifles, including AK-47s.

Investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are concerned saying that stolen firearms are often used in drug and gang-related activities.

The smash-and-grab is the second time thieves targeted the Buck-N-Bass store in a few months. During the summer, Andrew Clouse, owner, said three or four men broke through the front door and stole some guns. He said he thinks it might be the same group who committed the last crime.

Clouse and his family started the outdoor enthusiast shop four years ago. Clouse said they never had any problems until the recent burglaries.

"As stuff moves up this way, it's just peaceful Buford, but things change," said Clouse.

The family is taking more precautions to make sure the store is targeted a third time. They installed steel and concrete posts in front of the glass to make sure no one can try and drive into the building.

Investigators found the pick-up truck used in the crime. Officers said the truck was stolen and it was found abandoned about a mile away from the store. They are not releasing any more information.

The ATF Hotline is 1-800-ATF-Guns.
