Chamblee police fire a round at armed robbery suspect

Posted: Updated:

Police investigators told CBS Atlanta News an officer fired one round at an armed robbery suspect, but he was not hit.

Chamblee Police Chief Marc Johnson said the armed suspect is still on the run.

Johnson said the male suspect along with two other men attempted to rob Wireless World, a cell phone store near Chamblee Dunwoody Road in Chamblee.

The silent alarm went out to police at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived, they noticed an employee had been tied up, as three armed men tried to rob the store.

Investigators said one of the armed suspects tried to run from officers, who then fired at him as he ran off into a wooded area.

The two others suspects hid in the ceiling. Johnson said that gave the victim time to get out of the store.
S.W.A.T. was called to the scene. Shortly after they arrived and surrounded the building, the two men surrendered and were taken into custody.

Officers from Chamblee, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs and Johns Creek helped to secure the scene.

A police helicopter hovered over the area for a little over 30 minutes, searching for the suspect who fled on foot. The search was unsuccessful, but police will continue to look for him.

Johnson called the situation very dangerous.

"The suspects were armed and could have seriously hurt someone," Johnson said.
