Posted: Updated:

Cartersville police said a pedestrian struck by motorist died at the hospital.

On Monday around 1:35 a.m., a resident of Cartersville was struck by a car near the intersection of Joe Frank Harris Parkway and Martin Luther King Drive.

The pedestrian was hit as the driver was headed northbound on Joe Frank Harris Parkway and started to enter the turn lane for McDonalds.

The pedestrian was wearing dark jeans and a black shirt, according to the driver.

The victim was taken to Wellstone Kennestone Hospital by Bartow EMS. He died in surgery.

Officers investigating the accident said the pedestrian appeared to have improperly crossed the highway and, given the weather conditions and dark clothing, was not visible to the driver.

The driver was not cited.
