MARIETTA, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

CBS Atlanta News has Tough Questions for the city of Marietta after a landlord said raw sewage flooded his rental home.

That landlord, Mike Nelson, said that gallons of sewage ruined his property.

"I opened the door and it was like this incredible human waste smell," Nelson said.

Nelson told CBS Atlanta News he was frustrated because the city started cleaning up the mess, but when the bill came, the city of Marietta stopped the contracted cleanup crew from completing the job.

Bob Snelson, the director of Marietta's water department, said it wasn't clear who was responsible for the sewage backup.

"We cannot determine that the fault was ours," Snelson said.

Snelson told CBS Atlanta News that his department had done all it could for Nelson.

"This department (has) essentially done what we were required to do," he said.
