A Henry County teenager remains in jail, charged with sexually assaulting a girl in a school locker room.

Amayia Smith, a representative for the defendant, 16-year-old Eric Deshon Jones, spoke out on his behalf for the first time on Tuesday.

"We have never seen any signs that he has ever displayed this behavior around us at all, whatsoever," Smith said.

Smith said she knows Jones very well and is shocked by the allegations.

"He's very protective, he's a very nice gentleman, he's very gentleman-like, so of course these allegations would seem a little bit odd to us," Smith said.

Jones is accused of forcefully dragging a teenage girl into a locker room at Union Grove High School and sexually assaulting her last Thursday.

"She said she was trying to fight him off and he then took his hand and forcefully went down inside of her underclothes," the victim's mother told CBS Atlanta News.

School officials spent several days reviewing surveillance video of the incident, but there are no cameras in the locker rooms, which makes it difficult to determine what really happened.

"We can't see anything that happened in that locker room whatsoever," Smith said. "No cameras are in there, so no one would ever know what took place. That will only be between that young lady and Mr. Jones.  What I can tell you is the school has confirmed that they do see tussling between the both of them."

Smith said Jones is now being charged as an adult and hopefully his day in court will set the record straight.

"I think that some people have already convicted Eric before even hearing the direct details," Smith said.

A judge denied bond for Jones on Tuesday and transferred the case over to Superior Court.
