Henry County food pantry in need of donations

Posted: Updated:

A Henry County food pantry is in need of donations to avoid turning away families in need.

In His Name Ministries Food Pantry in Stockbridge is experiencing one of its toughest times in four years, according to President Nola Love.

The pantry serves more than 1,000 clients each month, providing for the homeless to families who just need a little bit more to get by.

This week they had to turn away five families from their regular client list and more could follow.

"It's very troubling. I have a very difficult time trying to make those decisions because they're all so needy," Love said.

Tiandra Thurmon got that dreadful call. Pantry workers told her they didn't have food and household items for her family. She and her husband have four young children. The pantry's monthly donations had been helping the family make ends meet for the past year.

"With a house full of people, the toilet paper goes pretty fast. Soap goes fast. They helped us with those things. But they also give us a lot of love up there. Sometimes you never know what a person is going through. And it, [love] can just uplift your spirit," Thurmon said.

Love said she hopes people will step up and make a food or cash donation.

"All of us can make a difference," said Love.
