Small earthquake reported near Dalton Thursday morning

DALTON, GA (CBS46) -

If you live in or around Dalton, you might have felt a small earthquake Thursday morning.

The 2.4 magnitude quake struck at 5:21 a.m. and was centered six miles south/southeast of Dalton.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, earthquakes too small to cause damage along the Eastern Tennessee seismic zone are felt about once a year.

The zone extends across Tennessee and northwestern Georgia into northeastern Alabama.

The largest known quake along the zone was a 4.6 magnitude near Fort Payne, Alabama on April 29, 2003.
