ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

The Governor's Office of Highway Safety in Georgia has issued a warning and a reminder for parents and drivers on Halloween night.

According to the state agency, the rate of child fatalities from vehicular accidents more than doubles between the hours of 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Oct. 31.

"It's going to be dark and it's going to be cold, so kids could be moving fast," said Harris Blackwood, director of the Governor's Officer of Highway Safety.

The office said drivers need to do several things differently than they normally would on Halloween night.

That includes slowing down significantly in residential neighborhoods, turning on head lights earlier in the evening and reducing distractions while driving.
