Police are investigating how three Douglas County teens were struck by a car early Tuesday morning.

The Georgia State Patrol responded to the Birch Landing Atlanta Apartments just after 1:30 a.m. and found three teens who told police they were walking to a store in the far right lane of Maxham Road when they were struck.

The teens range from 13 to 15 years old and from Lithia Springs.

Carleece Brown, 13, was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite with a broken ankle; Kendra Taylor was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with head trauma in critical condition; and Shania Willis, the most seriously injured, was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston with head trauma in critical condition.

Crystal Marshall, 22, of Chicago, IL, was charged with serious injury by vehicle, driving under the influence, driving too fast for conditions, slick tires, and possession of marijuana. She remained on the scene and was taken to the Douglas County Jail.

A Douglas County judge did not grant bond to Marshall during her first court appearance Tuesday, instead delaying the ruling until the District Attorney has a chance to prepare an indictment next week.

Marshall also had an active warrant for failure to appear for a case in Indiana, according to a law enforcement official who spoke during Tuesday's court proceeding.  Marshall told the judge she is not a flight risk because she has a job in the area and lives here, despite her Illinois driver's license.
