A Douglas County jury decided that a teenager accused of killing his great grandmother with a sword is competent to stand trial.

Just two weeks ago, a jury was trying to determine if Gevin Allen Prince, 16, was mentally competent to stand trial.

The jury deadlocked at 11-1 and resulted in a mistrial.

Investigators said Prince stabbed Mary Joan Gibbs, 77, with a samurai sword after he was told to stop playing video games.

Police said Gevin also stabbed his grandmother, Laura Prince, 55, during the violent attack.

Prince is charged with malice murder and four counts of aggravated assault. If convicted, he does not face the death penalty.
