A 17-year-old was arrested Thursday morning for hitting a school resource officer with a car, according to Gwinnett police.

The officer was hit by a car near Meadowcreek High School just after 10 a.m.

The officer was chasing after someone at the high school when another student, Jarvis Ruff, struck the officer.

As police approached Ruff, he lost control and crashed through a stone sign.

He was arrested after a brief chase, according to reports.

According to officers, Ruff is a student at Meadowcreek High School.

He has been charged with hit and run, driving without a driver's license, reckless driving and failure to report striking a fixed object.
