A 36-year-old from Cartersville who served as the secretary-treasurer of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters was sentenced to serve eight months in federal prison for stealing more than $60,000 from the union.
Ryan Forbes abused his fiduciary duties and squandered the funds of his fellow union members for his own personal benefit, according to United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates.
According to court reports, Forbes was the secretary-treasurer from 2005 through 2010. He used a company card 285 times to make unauthorized purchases and withdrawals.
Forbes' theft totaled more than $60,000.
