ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Remains found in Morgan County in 2011 have been identified as those of Jason Roark.  The Army veteran who did two tours in Iraq went missing Nov. 9, 2006.

Roark was last seen leaving a Snellville hotel. His car was later found in Morgan County, east of Atlanta. His body was found nearby, five years later.

"The remains were found in 2011, and it took us a year for his remains to be identified. That was a trying time just waiting to get confirmation that it was actually him," mother Terry Roark said.

Police classified the case as a homicide, saying they know Roark died at the hands of another, but at this point they don't know how or why.

Roark said the identification does give her some peace.

"People always talk about closure. There's never going to be closure, but at least we have him home and I know I know he's safe," Roark said.

She asks that anyone with information about her son contact police.

"I just want anyone that knows something to please, I don't care if it's the smallest thing, call the tip line and tell them what you know so we can get some answers to this," Roark said.

Call the Morgan County Sheriff's Office Tip Line at 706-342-1000 with information.
