DeKalb County residents furious over booting at condo complex

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

People in a DeKalb County condo complex are frustrated after dozens of cars were booted Thursday morning.

The management team at Waldrop Condos told CBS Atlanta News that the cars were booted because some homeowners had not paid their homeowner association fees.

In some cases, CBS Atlanta News found the opposite was true.

Thursday morning was rough for Felicia Smith.

She woke to find her Chrysler 300 with two boots, and it caused her major problems.

"I missed work this morning.  I didn't have a way to work," Smith said.

Smith is not alone - dozens of her neighbors were booted as well.

The problem in Smith's case is residents actually have the required decals on their cars.

Smith is angry and wants her money back, but the management company's CEO, Daryls Walker, said everyone booted did not have decals.

"I have no knowledge of that," Walker said.

In other cases, families rented their condos and were not aware of the HOA fees.

In Walker's case, there is nothing she can do.

"As far as the association is concerned, the renters have no rights within the association," Walker said.

At this point it's not clear if the booting will continue.
