Technology expert gives CBS Atlanta News the holiday deal lowdown

Posted: Updated:

With Black Friday and Cyber Monday about to officially kick-off the holiday shopping season, consumers are ready to hit the stores and their keyboards in search of the best deals.

When there is an endless sea of new apps, smart phones, how do you decide what's best for the people in your life?

CBS Atlanta News' Jennifer Banks spoke with Tech guru Brett Larson to help cut through the confusion and pick the perfect gifts for everyone on your list.

Last year, Cyber Monday had more than 123 million shoppers hit the stores and online sites to get the latest gifts at the best deals.

If you decide to take part in Cyber Monday make sure you are safe.

Your computer should always have the most recent updates installed for spam filters, anti-virus and anti-spyware software and a secure firewall.

Be sure to check on the seller's reputation and record for customer satisfaction.

Also, it's best to use a credit card, because under federal law, a shopper can dispute the charges if he or she doesn't receive the item.

If you have AT&T you can receive ShopAlerts. The alerts will focus on commerce, featuring limited-time coupons, deals or promotions for stores within the geo-fenced perimeter or for products within those stores.
