Family searches for answers in businessman's murder
Terry Porter's friends, family and community members gathered on Wednesday to plead for answers and help.
"See what's going on around you. Right under your nose," said Sunshine Lewis, a friend.
They came together at Porter's house on South Gordon Street in southwest Atlanta. Porter was shot and killed early last Monday morning on his front lawn, according to police. They have not made an arrest in his murder.
"If we're not free to come out of our own house and into our own vehicles, then none of us is free," said Michael Julian Bond, Atlanta city councilman at large.
Porter was a businessman who owned an assisted living facility and was a real estate broker.
"He fixed up houses in this area to keep away the crime and really busy with the community as well help the community and make the community look nicer. The person really don't know who they took out," said Levi Bias III, Porter's brother.
Police said Porter's cell phone and 2006 Range Rover were stolen. They have released surveillance video of the man they want to talk to in connection with the case.
"If you hear something that may be amiss, don't shut your ears and blinds, pick up the phone," said Bond.
Family and close friends said Porter watched out for his community and he would want the same from them.
Bias said one of his fondest members of his brother was how he woke up. "Knock on the door and say, 'Come on, rise and shine, we got to go help people,'" said Bias.
Crimestoppers is offering a $2,000 reward in this case.
