ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Twelve hours after a group of Walmart employees announced that they would go on strike at the store located on Howell Mill Road in northwest Atlanta, several dozen have made good on their promise.

According to the website for a workers advocacy organization called Our Walmart, the protests were set to begin at 8 p.m. on Thursday night.

But it wasn't until around 8 a.m. Friday when about 30 to 35 employees began marching across the parking area and entrance road off Howell Mill, chanting and carrying signs.

Black Friday shoppers did not seem to be disrupted by the striking workers.

More walk-offs at other stores were scheduled for various times on Friday.

The strikes are part of a movement across the country aimed at fighting what some workers call unfair working conditions and low wages.
