ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

For the 42nd year, Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless (HFTH) served Thanksgiving dinner to nearly 10,000 people who would otherwise have gone without a meal this holiday.

"Mother Teresa said, 'The greatest disease in America is loneliness.' I want people to go away from here knowing they are never alone. They never have to be hungry in Atlanta," said Elisabeth Omilami, director of the organization named after her father and civil rights icon, Hosea L. Williams.

HFTH guests, as they are affectionately acknowledged by the organization, were served a complete Thanksgiving meal; they also had an opportunity to take showers, receive new clothing, medical care, haircuts and styling and flu shots at no cost.

"I feel good that you do have people who still care and you have a place to go. You're not just left out in the cold when you are going through a situation," said Njeri Strickland.

The event was held at the Georgia World Congress Center thanks to a generous donation from the foundation of the Atlanta Falcons' owner, Arthur Blank. Blank and his family even put on aprons and helped serve meals.

"It's really special to give back to the community and help all these people. Just seeing the reaction on their face when you give them food is really special. I'm happy to do it," said John Blank, 15, Arthur Blank's son.
