8-year-old saving Christmas for family in need

Posted: Updated:
CANTON, GA (CBS46) -

A Cherokee County boy spends his playtime working to bring Christmas to a family in need.

Bradley Thomas, 8, is in second grade. He collects cans, sells bracelets that say "Team Bradley," fills up bird-feeders, feeds the neighbor's cat and weeds yards to make money.

"They don't have very much and it's helping them because they don't have much to play with," said Bradley.

This is the second year Bradley has spent his time raising and earning money to help another family.

It started more than a year ago with a Taekwondo project where Bradley decided to raise money to help a family in need. He met the requirements for the project, but decided to keep on raising money. He raised more than $700 and brought Christmas to the Moody family. The family of five lost everything in a house fire. Bradley had heard his parents talk about the family and wanted to help.

Bradley no longer takes Taekwondo but his parents were not surprised he wanted to help another family.

"It was all his idea and he does all the work. We didn't push him into this. It was all his idea," said Dewayne Thomas, father.

They are impressed at the hours and hours he's worked to raise money. This year he's earned more than $400.

"Weeding a garden isn't an easy task for an 8-year-old," said Dewayne Thomas.

Bradley has done hours of work and he doesn't know who he's helping yet.

"Once I find out how many kids in the family. I'll be able to buy the presents. I think it's fun and it's helping people who don't have much," said Bradley.
