A man has been arrested after his fiance's 2-year-old was found dead in a DeKalb County apartment Saturday and the child's mother is blaming him for his death.
Danielle Calhoun tells CBS Atlanta News that she left her son Michael Weeks, 2, in the care of her fiance Devin Sawyer, 23, on Saturday while she ran some errands.
When police responded to the Ivy Park Apartments on Memorial Drive, they found Michael unresponsive.
Sawyer told investigators that he and the boy had taken a nap and that when he woke up, the boy was lifeless. According to the police report, the boy had cuts and bruises on his body.
Investigators interviewed both the child's mother and Sawyer.
Sawyer was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder and cruelty to children.
"He was just so lifeless on that table," said Calhoun. "I knew what happened to him. I knew. There wasn't a shadow of a doubt."
Calhoun accuses her fiance of killing the boy.
"He killed him. I knew it," said Calhoun. "It was my first thought, he was the only one in the house with him."
She said she can't stop thinking about the moment she came to the hospital and saw her son's lifeless body on the emergency room table.
"His eyes were just blood shot red, and he was just looking at me and just looking like his eyes were full of tears that he couldn't even drop," Calhoun as she fought back tears. "It was like his last cry."
Calhoun said she hopes the truth comes out when the medical examiner finishes the autopsy in the next few days.
