ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A 37 year-old man is recovering from gunshot wounds he suffered at an apartment complex in Northwest Atlanta early Tuesday morning, according to Atlanta Police.  The victim was smoking outside of his mother's unit at the Allen Hills Apartments when he was approached by two young men.

"He said one of them asked him to give him a cigarette, and at that point he became nervous and began to walk away," said Capt. Adam Lee, III of the Atlanta Police Department.  "At that point he was telling us that one of the young men began shooting at him."

Lee said seven shell casings were discovered at the scene, and the victim was hit by two of those bullets.

"We don't know if it was an attempted robbery or what the circumstances were," said Lee.

He said the victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition, and is expected to survive the gunshot wounds.  Police are looking for any information that might help lead them to the two suspects involved in this shooting.
