Generous benefactor to keep Gainesville dementia center open

GAINESVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

A non-profit adult day center that serves patients with dementia in Gainesville was under threat of eviction.

The Guest House was served an eviction notice by the Gainesville Housing Authority. Since 2005 the Guest House team failed to reach a deal with the Gainesville Housing Authority for a new lease.

On Wednesday night a generous benefactor called the Guest House Executive Director Dana Chapman to offer her a place to move the facility rent-free for a year.

"I can't even get my head around it because it's coming together so well. It's almost too good to be true," Chapman said.

However the eviction notice is still active and it's something Chapman will have to figure out as she plans the Guest House move.

"I'm trying to think about how we get from here to where we need to be safely, cleanly with a great renovation on a new building," Chapman said.
