Georgia, Alabama fans in Atlanta for SEC Championship Game

Posted: Updated:

Die-hard Georgia and Alabama football fans are in Atlanta in preparation for the SEC Championship Game at the Georgia Dome on Saturday.

Fans are ready, and they know the winner of Saturday's game will play for a National Championship.

On Thursday, fans began to set up their tailgates at the RV park near the Georgia Dome. At first, there were far more Georgia fans on hand with just two days left before the big game.

But by Friday morning, most of the RVs in the parking lot were occupied by Bama fans.

"May the best person win. I sure hope it's Alabama. Roll Tide!" said life-long Alabama fan Tim Crumpton.

Parrish Duncan, a Georgia fan from Newnan, set up his RV and soon realized he was parked right in the middle of a bunch of Alabama fans.

"So far they've been ok. We get along with everybody. But we'll see Saturday night how they are," he said with a chuckle.

Surprisingly, there was even a Florida Gator fan in town for the SEC Championship Game. He told CBS Atlanta News he hasn't missed a championship game in 20 years. He also said he's pulling for Alabama.

"Well we're used to being here, so it's kind of a habit. I come here anyway and I'll be at everyone going forward. I've been to the two that were in Birmingham and everything since it has been in Atlanta," fan Jim Wilkerson said.

SEC Fanfare opened Friday at 1 p.m. at the Georgia World Congress Center.

"There is football interactive, basketball, we have SEC legends like Condredge Holloway, Buck Belue, Tyler Watts all coming down so it's really a great event for all fans," said event coordinator Adam Roell.

SEC Fanfare is open to the public from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
