STONE MOUNTAIN, GA (CBS46) -

The superintendent of schools in DeKalb County is planning to give her State of the Schools address twice Monday.

Dr. Cheryl Atkinson is expected to speak first a luncheon sponsored by the DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce.

That will be followed by a public event scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the DeKalb County Schools headquarters on Mountain Industrial Boulevard in Stone Mountain.

Some parents have said they are interested in learning about a new redistricting plan which caught them off guard.

An excerpt from a Nov. 29 blog post by DeKalb School Watch Two reads as follows:

Cleverly disguising this redistricting/school consolidation plan as a discussion of the Proposed 2012-2017 School Organization at a called policy meeting, the Administration assured that no parent would know what was going to be presented. The meeting was held in the afternoon, while taxpaying parents were still at work.

Also of interest lately, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has been investigating the DeKalb County Board of Education over allegations that it mismanaged millions of dollars and abused its power.
