Two officers taken to hospital after suspect chase in Fulton County

PALMETTO, GA (CBS46) -

Authorities said two officers were involved in an accident near Palmetto Roosevelt Highway and Walnut Way on Tuesday morning.

According to Palmetto police Sgt. Lee Gragg, the chase started just after 10 a.m.

Rakim Jackson was at the United Community Bank when he attempted credit card fraud, according to police.

Jackson fled the bank and headed to Walgreen Pharmacy where he carjacked someone in the parking lot, officers said.

Corporal Michael Upshur with the Palmetto Police Department and Union City officer Kevin Gilham started chasing Jackson.

During the chase, a crash occurred on Palmetto Roosevelt Highway. Gilham and Upshur were taken to the hospital.

Upshur has been employed with the Palmetto Police Department for eight years. He is in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

Jackson was arrested.
