DeKalb County parents angry after three principal changes

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Parents at DeKalb County's Martin Luther King High School are upset after school administrators changed their principal for the third time this school year.

Parents said all the changes are affecting their students.

Evelyn Cunningham, the Parent Teacher Student Association president, told CBS Atlanta News she is quite concerned about all the changes in leadership at Martin Luther King High School.

Cunningham feels it has started to drastically affect the students' education.

"That's telling us they don't care about us," a frustrated Cunningham said. "That's telling us our kids doesn't come first."

According to Cunningham, what disturbs parents the most is the fact that school leaders just can't seem to make the right decision and stick to it.

"Don't keep throwing somebody here for a short term, and then say you have to come back and fix the problem in another year. Listen to what we are saying."

In a written statement DeKalb County told CBS Atlanta News:

"DCSS hired a retiree to serve as interim principal after the former principal was reassigned to an elementary school.

"The interim principal was a temporary assignment while the district conducted a search for a new principal. That principal has been named, Dr. Priscilla Weaver," wrote school spokesperson Jeff Dickerson."

That answer doesn't sit well with Cunningham and she wants more answers from DeKalb County school leaders.
