Occupy Atlanta's new movement

Posted: Updated:

The Occupy Atlanta movement is entering its second year with a new mission. Organizers are helping homeowners move into and repair vacant, bank-owned homes that don't belong to them.

Volunteers gathered at Pittman Park Thursday night for a march to one of these homes in southwest Atlanta. "God said the violent take it by force, and you gotta sometimes go out there and say, 'I am talking my blessing,'" said Renika Wheeler, who is occupying one of the vacant homes.

Occupy Atlanta members say this act of civil disobedience has support from surrounding residents, churches and Fulton County District 5 Commissioner Emma Darnell.

There are cities across the country also taking part in this same type of movement.
