CLAYTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

All eight units of a Jonesboro area apartment building are empty after fire damaged many of the units late Thursday night.

Capt. Walter Barber with the Clayton County Fire Department said six units sustained fire and water damage as a result of the blaze, but the occupants of two remaining units were also asked to leave.

Firefighters were called to the Tara Courts Apartments off Tara Boulevard just before 10 p.m. Barber said crews called in a second alarm as the flames intensified.

There were no injuries reported, but assistance was called for six families, consisting of 10 adults and two children.

Red Cross spokesperson Sherry Nicholson said, "We will be helping all six families with temporary lodging and food, and providing clothing as needed."

Barber said the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
