Donations still needed to replace stolen toys

FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A South Fulton County charity needs your help to collect Christmas gifts for needy families after thieves burglarized their storage facility.

Two weeks ago, thieves stole almost all of the toys in the Lift Community Development's storage unit.

The organization works year round to collect the gifts and volunteers were worried there was not enough time to replace the items stolen.

The agency told CBS Atlanta News that public support has already started pouring in.

"We all have down falls. We all have hardships in life, but when the going gets tough we have to keep going. We can't give up," said Shurnetha Russell, Lift Community Development volunteer coordinator.

When CBS Atlanta News first spoke with Russell she was devastated and heartbroken because she didn't think it was possible to replace toys by Lift's Dec. 20 give away day.

But to Russell's surprise, the community has responded with a little more than $4,000 in donations.

"It shows that people out there still care," Russell said.

If you want to help you can give at any Bank of America. Just ask for the Lift Community Development Fund. You can also go to www.liftcdc.com to donate via PayPal.
