DeKalb County Schools delays redistricting vote

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

On Monday night, officials with DeKalb County Schools decided to delay a vote on a new redistricting plan. Parents are calling the move a step in the right direction.

At the meeting, parents called for more community involvement. They were not happy about the limited time they were given to review the 105-page proposal. They also wanted more information about how much the plan will save.

Parent and Gwinnett County teacher Meagan Burns said, "I don't believe this plan focuses on the best interest of the students, but rather, the school district's focus on cost cutting." Burns also said the proposal did not have accurate numbers.

The board will vote on their redistricting plan on Jan. 7. They hope to have a plan in place for the state by the spring.
